Wonderful soundscape! Unbelievable to think how much destruction is happening in that beautiful place. Thanks so much for sharing this.

Thanks so much for reading Claire! I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s an extremely fragile situation there. I read a quote that said “nowhere other than a war zone, is the law so blatantly and brazenly ignored as in the Amazon”. Sobering to say the least!

Very sad to know that the Amazon rainforest is in danger …..

Love that you included the soundscape. Important piece of writing and really immersive too. If you’re happy for me to link it Andrew, I’ll include it in the next The Green Travel Guide newsletter? Deserves to be shared widely.

Thanks Laura! And absolutely, that would be great - thank you for thinking of me (and apologies for the late reply - I am currently at 4000m in a tea house in the Himalayas and haven’t had much signal for the last week!).

We were on the other end, from Manaus and up the Rio Negro to the confluence of the waters. The sounds, the river(s), both Amazon and Rio Negro, just the entirety of it--simply amazing!! Loved your photos!!

Thanks for reading Jeanine! Your trip sounds wonderful - that’s where I would love to go next. The Rio Negro looks incredible (as do those river dolphins!).

Yes, Pink river dolphins! I guess they think those might have been the myth of the original mermaids— wild. We went up the Rio Negro for 300 km, 7 days, on a 100 ft replica of an old Amazon riverboat. I shy away from ‘cruises,’ but this only had 8 other people plus me and my husband. Each morning we’d go out in small motor boats at sunrise—like you went out, and it was spectacular. I wrote an article abut it for a Mexico City paper, then put on Substack last year. I can DM the link if you like.
